Old Testament Scripture Reading: Isaiah 26:1 – 10 (KJV) |
|
Isa 26:1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.
Isa 26:2 Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
Isa 26:5 For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.
Isa 26:6 The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.
Isa 26:7 The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.
Isa 26:8 Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.
Isa 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
Isa 26:10 Let favour be showed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:13 – 25 (NASB) |
|
1 Pet 1:13 Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Pet 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
1 Pet 1:15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
1 Pet 1:16 because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
1 Pet 1:17 And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay upon earth;
1 Pet 1:18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
1 Pet 1:19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
1 Pet 1:20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
1 Pet 1:21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
1 Pet 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
1 Pet 1:23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and abiding word of God.
1 Pet 1:24 For, “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,
1 Pet 1:25 BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ABIDES FOREVER.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

Transforming Power Statements:
#1) We are to be mentally prepared for new thoughts that will produce action toward godliness, while maintaining physical sobriety from things which have the potential to hinder our spiritual progress, while also bearing in mind that grace alone will be the vehicle that brings us into the kingdom through the love of God by His Son alone! (Hebrews 12:1 – 4; Rom 12:1 – 3)
#2) Since we now know better, the LORD is now calling on us to also do better and to learn to put up a proper fight against the sins that we once were powerless to overcome, but now have been granted by His power to have the resources to experience victory over all the power of the enemies of our souls. (What / who are these “enemies”?)
#3) Since we are called into a family of believers, we must now also learn to truly share in one another’s burdens and assist while allowing ourselves to be assisted, as we urgently consider that life itself is precious and has a definite end with no set date of closure.
#4) Our salvation is secure because of the certainty of the Word of God which is eternal and is not based on the works of the flesh which can at best only be temporary: (John 3:5 – 6; Philippians 3:3; 2 Corinthians 4:16 – 18)
