The World Through The Lens Of Truth

As we return from our special series of holiday messages, Pastor Landis now re-enters the fascinating epistle of First John beginning where we left off prior to the Christmas / New-year celebration at chapter 2:15. Come along and hear the word as our teacher sets forth to display from the Scriptures: “The World Through The Lens Of Truth” a timely and eye-opening teaching session you will not want to miss.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 1:1 – 14  (NASB)
Eccl 1:1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

Eccl 1:2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.”

Eccl 1:3 What advantage does man have in all his work Which he does under the sun?

Eccl 1:4 A generation goes and a generation comes, But the earth remains forever.

Eccl 1:5 Also, the sun rises and the sun sets; And hastening to its place it rises there again.

Eccl 1:6 Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues swirling along; And on its circular courses the wind returns.

Eccl 1:7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again.

Eccl 1:8 All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing.

Eccl 1:9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So, there is nothing new under the sun.

Eccl 1:10 Is there anything of which one might say, “See this, it is new”? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us.

Eccl 1:11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come later still.

Eccl 1:12 I, the Preacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.

Eccl 1:13 And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom concerning all that has been done under heaven. It is a grievous task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.

Eccl 1:14 I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 John 2:15 – 23  (NASB)
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.

1 John 2:18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen; from this we know that it is the last hour.

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us.

1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

1 John 2:21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

1 John 2:22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 2:23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.

Transforming Power Statements:

#1) As disciples of Jesus Christ (and therefore, students of the Word) it is necessary that we learn to view the world just as Jesus did, so that we learn to think as He thought, so that we might also learn to act as He acted toward all matters of life, since Jesus is the perfect model of a man as man was created to be.

(KEY IDEA: Development of a biblical worldview)

#2) Since the fall of man, satan and the demonic hosts, God has had a love / hate relationship with the inhabitants of the world who are in continuous conflict with Him through the creation and practices of escalating evil systems and antichristian philosophies that are propagated to the world by choosing to disregard God as Creator, Sustainer, and Savior by His Son Jesus, The Christ.

(KEY IDEA: Overt suppression of the TRUTH!)

#3) Christians are learning by the Holy Spirit to live in accordance with the truth which also contradicts and refutes the errors of paganism in its many forms, and to share the knowledge of truth with others which is what true love demands.

(KEY IDEA: Love covers a multitude of sins!)
