Did you realize that the feast that is known as “The Last Supper” was conducted in obedience to the Law of Moses based on God’s command, which is found in the Scriptures in the book of Exodus? Likewise, the current day Passover Seder observed in Judaism still looks forward to the coming of Elijah who was promised to come to usher in the coming of the LORD, yet Christians believe that the LORD has already come once and is scheduled to return very soon and without warning. Confused? Old Testament Scripture Reading: Exodus 12:1 – 14 (KJV)
Exo 12:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, Exo 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Exo 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: Exo 12:4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Exo 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: Exo 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. Exo 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover. Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. Exo 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Exo 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:9 – 23 (KJV)
Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Heb 10:13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. Heb 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Heb 10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Heb 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Transforming Power Statements: #1) The Last Supper was the finale Seder that would ever need to be observed in that it was only a shadow of what Christ Jesus came to make real and permanent for all who believe in Him.#2) Jesus transferred the meaning of all things observed in the Passover Seder to Himself and commanded that His disciples “Do this in remembrance of Me” and that as they did that they would proclaim His Death until He returned.
#3) Keeping the “True Passover” is joyfully accepting the sacrifice of Messiah as complete to satisfy God on behalf of every believing sinner, and knowing that all glory is to Christ and not to any man nor institution on Earth.
