Is the teaching concerning the “Son of God” strictly a New Testament doctrine never before taught in Older Testament Judaism? Who do you suppose should be trusted most, God or man? If God has truly said a thing, should we not joyfully and quickly accept His testimony? When God has taken the witness stand on a matter, is not the case then closed? We might think these things are so, but there are so many who foolishly do not agree, although according to the Word, only the ones who believe God’s testimony shall be saved from the scheduled fiery destruction of death and hell. Listen in as Pastor Landis teaches on this pertinent topic in today’s lesson as we continue our current study in the epistle of First John.
Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 2:1 – 12 (KJV)
Psa 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
Psa 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Psa 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Psa 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:6 – 15 (NASB)
1 John 5:6 This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood.
1 John 5:7 And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth.
1 John 5:8 For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this, that He has borne witness concerning His Son.
1 John 5:10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness that God has borne concerning His Son.
1 John 5:11 And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
1 John 5:15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
Transforming Power Statements:
#1) Psalms 2nd Chapter of the Older Testament clearly teaches the doctrine of Messiah being The Son of God and The King of kings as well Who shall reign over the redeemed Kingdom of God on Earth, also that He {The Only-begotten Son} is the only means of Salvation. (Necessary and qualified by His Father)
#2) God has given His testimony in many ways regarding “His Son” The Savior of the world, and has also published it in the book; the Holy Bible.
#3) There is no other place nor reason that one may obtain confidence except in their acceptance of God’s Testimony regarding His Only Begotten Son, and it is through faith in His Testimony that believers thereof have been granted the privilege of the mystery of answered prayer.
