Sufficient Power For You Too

What do you do when there is a situation in your life that appears hopeless, or overwhelming, or just plain old difficult to understand? Have you ever found yourself thinking: “What else can go wrong now?” Can I ever get a bit of relief? Just how well do you handle those days that seem are so busy that they seem to be unrelenting? Could you use a little help or perhaps some strategy to cope with such challenging times? Well, listen in as we continue our trek through the Gospel of Saint Mark in the fifth chapter as Pastor: Landis teaches a lesson he has titled: “Sufficient Power For You Too”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Isaiah 40:13 – 31  (KJV)

Isa 40:13  Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

Isa 40:14  With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

Isa 40:15  Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

Isa 40:16  And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.

Isa 40:17  All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

Isa 40:18  To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

Isa 40:19  The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

Isa 40:20  He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.

Isa 40:21  Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

Isa 40:22  It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Isa 40:23  That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

Isa 40:24  Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

Isa 40:25  To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

Isa 40:26  Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

Isa 40:27  Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

Isa 40:28  Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Isa 40:29  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Isa 40:30  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

Isa 40:31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Mark 5:21 – 43  (KJV)
Mark 5:21  And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
Mark 5:22  And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Mark 5:23  And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
Mark 5:24  And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Mark 5:25  And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
Mark 5:26  And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Mark 5:27  When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Mark 5:28  For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
Mark 5:29  And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
Mark 5:30  And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
Mark 5:31  And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
Mark 5:32  And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
Mark 5:33  But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Mark 5:34  And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Mark 5:35  While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
Mark 5:36  As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Mark 5:37  And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Mark 5:38  And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
Mark 5:39  And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
Mark 5:40  And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
Mark 5:41  And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Mark 5:42  And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
Mark 5:43  And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
Transforming Power Statements:

#1) From the life portrait of Jesus’ earthly ministry as we view it in rather short snap-shots from the various gospel accounts such as this segment in Mark 5, we know that our LORD was extremely busy during each day preaching and filling the requests of the ones who had needs; yet He proved to them just as He can for us that He has  more than sufficient power to attend to all our needs, since there are no limitations for God.

#2) When the request of Jairus came, Jesus set out to answer his prayer to keep his daughter of twelve from death and was met with the woman who had the issue of blood on His way to answer the petition as well as a mob of others on the way, but Jesus was well able to respond to every need of the ones who had faith even when all seemed lost, therefore, He has sufficient power for you too!

#3) There is little wonder that it was said: Great is the LORD and worthy to be praised! Our God is and awesome GOD!
