Spiritual Growth 101

Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus our LORD! Today Pastor Landis Fisher is preaching a final installment to a mini-series on the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers which he has titled: “Spiritual Growth 101”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 1:1 – 6  (KJV)

Psa 1:1  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Psa 1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psa 1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Psa 1:4  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Psa 1:5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
Psa 1:6  For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 2Peter 1:1 – 10  (KJV)

2Pe 1:1  Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Pe 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2Pe 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
2Pe 1:4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe 1:5  And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7  And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8  For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Pe 1:9  But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
2Pe 1:10  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Transforming Power Statements:

1) Everyone who is saved is in a process of producing spiritual fruit and shall continue doing this throughout their time upon the earth; because God the Holy Spirit takes up residence in each one who is called by God and puts their trust in Jesus Christ, in order to fulfill every purpose of God in each ones life.

2) The Psalmist shows us that a change of company from unbelievers, doubters, and other forms of scoffers, is required to assure spiritual growth as much as it is for us to saturate ourselves in the Word of God day and night; washing ourselves in the truth, being steadfast and unmovable about all that God has said.

3) Fortunately God knows that we are unable to satisfy Him with anything we ourselves could ever produce on our own; this is why He gave His only-begotten Son  Who alone satisfies Him for us who believe in Him; in order to produce from us fruitfulness that is imperishable and constantly growing as a result of our ever increasing faith to the praise of His Glory!
