Spiritual Gifts

In this message, pastor Landis explains the properties of spiritual gifts from God’s perspective and how they flesh out in the body of Christ. He also offers encouragement to those who may be struggling to understand and apply their gifts in the body toward the edification of the others. Listen and see if this message might help you to stir up the spiritual gift that God has given you if you have come to faith in Jesus His Son; or how you might be gifted if you come to accept His Son as your personal Savior.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 68:18 – 19  (KJV)
Psa 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

Psa 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1 – 9 / 1Corinthians 12:1 – 14  (NASB)
1 Cor 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware.

1 Cor 12:2 You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the dumb idols, however you were led.

1 Cor 12:3 Therefore I make known to you, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor 12:4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.

1 Cor 12:5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.

1 Cor 12:6 And there are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.

1 Cor 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

1 Cor 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

1 Cor 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

1 Cor 12:10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

1 Cor 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

1 Cor 12:12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.

1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

1 Cor 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.

Rom 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Rom 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to every man among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Rom 12:4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function,

Rom 12:5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

Rom 12:6 And since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let each exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;

Rom 12:7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching;

Rom 12:8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Rom 12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.
