Old Testament Scripture Reading: Zechariah 3:1 – 8 (KJV)

Zec 3:1  And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

Zec 3:2  And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

Zec 3:3  Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

Zec 3:4  And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

Zec 3:5  And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.

Zec 3:6  And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,

Zec 3:7  Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

Zec 3:8  Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Hebrews 2:14 – 18 (KJV)

Heb 2:14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Heb 2:15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Heb 2:16  For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Heb 2:17  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Heb 2:18  For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) Zechariah the Prophet was given a vision of the High Priest, Joshua (equivalent to Jesus, or Yeshua) clothed in filthy garments which represent him being covered with the sins of the people because it was a depiction of how the Priest was a type of human mediator who stands before God bearing the sins of the people, while also presenting the sacrificial blood of the lamb on the day of atonement.

2) The actual satisfying fulfillment is completed by Jesus the Christ in the New Testament as He was the Word Who became flesh just for the purpose of taking up to Himself the actual sins of the people while also being the perfect representative for God Who desired to provide perfect pardon to all who believe in Him.

3) Because Jesus is fully Man as well as fully God, He is able to comfort all who come to Him when they are being tempted because He fully and experientially understands the entire dynamic of the human dilemma and also knows entirely the righteous standard and mercy of God Almighty like no other!
