Setting Your Mind On Things Above

In our last lesson called: “Employing Sanctifying Strategies To Bolster Change” We laid out a set of strategies that become a new way of life for those who have become children of the Most High God through faith in His Son Jesus the Christ alone. In this lesson we shall learn how to not only start this practice, but also how to continually maintain this kind of lifestyle by way of: “Setting Your Mind On Things Above”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 23:1 – 6 (KJV)

Psa 23:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psa 23:2  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Psa 23:3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psa 23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psa 23:5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Psa 23:6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1 – 10 (KJV)

Col 3:1  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Col 3:2  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Col 3:3  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Col 3:4  When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Col 3:5  Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Col 3:6  For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

Col 3:7  In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

Col 3:8  But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Col 3:9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

Col 3:10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: .

Transforming Meditative Questions :

1) Do we have a settled mindset about all the matters of this life that they are being superintended through the agencies of a Holy God, Who Himself has promised to guide us as a Shepherd does His Flock?

2) Do we acknowledge God’s provisions of everything we need even when we are being attacked by enemies both internal and external?

3) How should a believer respond to rejection and turmoil which comes because of their own personal proclamation of faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His doctrine?

4) Where do I stand with God? Saved? or Lost?
