Refreshing Faith Against Family Fears

As we continue our ongoing study on precepts for spiritual development for marriage and family, our teacher, Pastor Landis Fisher has prepared another installment on this vital topic which he has titled: “Refreshing Faith Against Family Fears”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 6:1 – 5  (KJV)

Neh 6:1  Now when it was reported to Sanballat, Tobiah, to Geshem the Arab and to the rest of our enemies that I had rebuilt the wall, and that no breach remained in it, although at that time I had not set up the doors in the gates,
Neh 6:2  then Sanballat and Geshem sent a message to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together at Chephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they were planning to harm me.
Neh 6:3  So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”
Neh 6:4  They sent messages to me four times in this manner, and I answered them in the same way.
Neh 6:5  Then Sanballat sent his servant to me in the same manner a fifth time with an open letter in his hand.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1Timothy 4:9 – 16  (KJV)

1Ti 4:9  This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
1Ti 4:10  For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
1Ti 4:11  These things command and teach.
1Ti 4:12  Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1Ti 4:13  Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
1Ti 4:14  Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
1Ti 4:15  Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
1Ti 4:16  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) As we view what some have referred to as “Life’s Struggles” we must learn to see that it is God Who is at the forefront of the battle against such things which He allows and that we too, therefore, must learn to operate under the very same kinds of pressures each and every day.

2) Nehemiah faced the situation of having to rely on God’s revelation to him that set him on the course of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem even against a barrage of evil enemy workers who did all they could persistently, to stop him from completing his God-given task but Nehemiah saw through their schemes and refused to stop what God had clearly told him what to do.

3) Paul had to reinforce Timothy to take a stand against a system of haters who otherwise may have diverted him from fervent pursuit of fulfilling the role he had been granted by God for the purpose of building up the Church, and to realize that the practice of his gift was given by the Holy Spirit for the building up of not only the Church, but himself also.
