Receiving Power To Obey

Receiving Power To Obey is a gift from God made possible to every believer in Jesus Christ through the Gospel, and is improved through discipleship, which is an ongoing practice to everyone who is saved. Therefore, being a disciple (learner) requires us to study and apply God’s Holy Word to realize and apply the blessing that is revealed in the Bible about each one whom God has foreknown , called, justified and glorified, which is in progress in the lives of the saved pending completion! Therefore, let us study this magnificent fact which I am calling: “Receiving Power To Obey”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 15:23 – 31 (KJV)

1Sa 15:23  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

1Sa 15:24  And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

1Sa 15:25  Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

1Sa 15:26  And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

1Sa 15:27  And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

1Sa 15:28  And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

1Sa 15:29  And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

1Sa 15:30  Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.

1Sa 15:31  So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

 New Testament Scripture Reading: 1John 3:1 – 5 (KJV)

1Jn 3:1  Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1Jn 3:3  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

1Jn 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

1Jn 3:5  And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) The last of the Judges, who is the first of the Prophets known as Samuel, is a crucial figure in the OT, whom God used to announce the removal of King Saul, who was disobedient to God and replace him with David, a man after God’s own heart, who was the youngest son of Jesse of Bethlehem, after King Saul listened to the voice of the people rather than the Word of God.

2) As believers, we are also called to obey God and not the voice of the world, the flesh nor the devil, but rather to learn to be obedient to God’s Word as we walk by faith in Jesus Christ, Who has already paid the price of His perfect life to redeem believers from the curse of death by faith in His sacrifice and the guidance of His Holy Word and Spirit.

3) John reveals that we are already “children of God” when we are granted faith to trust totally in Jesus Christ, and baptized into the Holy Spirit, Who continues to carry out the process of sanctification within each believer, to produce obedience to God’s Word through discipleship, confession, repentance and faith to receive power from day to day to obey!
