Provoking Patience and Comfort by Revelation of Messianic Mystery

As we continue our studies through the entirety of the book of Romans, our teacher, Pastor Landis Fisher adds another segment from the 15th chapter, explaining the significance of the previous covenant as it pertains to the present day Church in a lesson he has titled: “Provoking Patience and Comfort by Revelation of Messianic Mystery”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 69:6 – 9  (KJV)

Psa 69:6  Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.
Psa 69:7  Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.
Psa 69:8  I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.
Psa 69:9  For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Romans 15:4 – 7  (KJV)

Rom 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Rom 15:5  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
Rom 15:6  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom 15:7  Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) The salvation of  mankind was in the heart of God, and is revealed in the Old Testament, along with His love and their redemption by the blood of Jesus the Christ,  and is the essence of the things written aforetime of which the Apostle Paul speaks.

2) This is a lesson that he had to learn from God based on his own personal misunderstanding  of the Old Testament which he had considered  to be a manual on what works were required to please God, rather than knowing that these thing were written to display God’s love and provide patience and comfort to not just the Jews, but to the Gentiles as well.

3) Messianic Mysteries are the key to the Gospel which are concealed in the Old Covenant and could  not be understood without revelation from the Holy Spirit, Whom God gives to all believers in His Son, Jesus Christ, to provoke patience and comfort to them and through them to the entire world.
