Principles of Giving By Grace

This LORD’s day, our Pastor / Teacher Landis Fisher continues our ongoing study on Giving and the support of the Church. This week’s installment has been titled: “Principles of Giving By Grace” taken from assorted texts in both the Old & New Testaments. Please get out your Bibles and plan to dig in!

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Exodus 25:1 – 8  (KJV)

Exo 25:1  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Exo 25:2  Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
Exo 25:3  And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,
Exo 25:4  And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,
Exo 25:5  And rams’ skins dyed red, and badgers’ skins, and shittim wood,
Exo 25:6  Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,
Exo 25:7  Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.
Exo 25:8  And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Luke 6:36 – 38  (KJV)

Luk 6:36  Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Luk 6:37  Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Luk 6:38  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) Now that we can clearly see that the Tithing of the Theocracy of Israel was: 1) Required; for the purpose of supporting the political, national, Financial, and spiritual systems of the country and therefore, it was not giving God anything which could be considered as an offering; and that under the Tithing System, failure to pay it was just like us failing to pay our taxes today, and that Offering to God has always been an act of “Free will” from the goodness of the heart of a saved person in gratitude toward God and as a witness to the unbelieving Gentiles who observed the way of life of the Jews.

2) Even when God charged Moses to take up a collection of items for the building of the Tabernacle he was commanded by God to only take it from the ones who of a willing heart wanted to give the offering, and their response to God’s request was a direct measurement of their own personal love toward God and the things He had ordained for the Children of Israel, and they gave so much willingly, they had to be commanded to cease!

3) This same principle of Grace giving is taught in the New Testament as well. as Jesus commanded us to “Give and it shall be given unto you with the same measure that we use; and He promised all who do support the things of God that they never ever need to be worried about having the things that they need in this life and neither in the life to come.
