Preparing For The Journey

Greetings in Christ Jesus,

As Pastor Fisher has been called to be the new Senior Pastor of the St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church, he decided to start with an introductory message of encouragement to the congregation and the world picking up from where he left off at in our ongoing study through the epistle to the Romans in chapter Seven as a review and continuing on into Chapter eight. Listen in as Pastor Fisher gets us back into the Word preaching a message he has titled: “Preparing For The Journey”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 6:15 – 25  (KJV)

Deu 6:15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Deu 6:16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

Deu 6:17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

Deu 6:18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,

Deu 6:19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.

Deu 6:20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?

Deu 6:21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:

Deu 6:22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

Deu 6:23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

Deu 6:24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

Deu 6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Romans 7:14 – 25  (KJV)

Rom 7:14  For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
Rom 7:15  For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Rom 7:16  If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
Rom 7:17  Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Rom 7:18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Rom 7:19  For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Rom 7:20  Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Rom 7:21  I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Rom 7:22  For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Rom 7:23  But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Rom 7:24  O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) There is nothing wrong with the Law; on the contrary, the Law is Holy, Just, and Good, nevertheless, we are fallen by nature and therefore, must learn to defeat the motions of the flesh as we mature in our Christian walk. This Process is called “Progressive Sanctification” which is the on going product of being saved.

2) The ones who come to God by faith in His provision of His Son Jesus the Christ, believing that His sacrifice alone is sufficient to save them entirely, are covered and enter into a no condemnation status with God by the death burial and resurrection of Messiah, and are equiped with the Holy Spirit, God’s gift to all who believes, as a guide to continue this gracious work through an increasing knowledge of His Word.

3) Greater Faith is the result of greater understanding of the Word and the ways of God, which provides security to all who walk the course with God.
