Old Testament Scripture Reading: Exodus 17:8 – 16  (NASB)
Exo 17:8  Then Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim.
Exo 17:9  So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
Exo 17:10  And Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought against Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Exo 17:11  So it came about when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed, and when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed.
Exo 17:12  But Moses’ hands were heavy. Then they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. Thus his hands were steady until the sun set.
Exo 17:13  So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Exo 17:14  Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this in a book as a memorial, and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
Exo 17:15  And Moses built an altar, and named it The LORD is My Banner;
Exo 17:16  and he said, “The LORD has sworn; the LORD will have war against Amalek from generation to generation.”
New Testament Scripture Reading: James 5:13 – 20  (NASB)
James 5:13  Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises.
James 5:14  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
James 5:15  and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
James 5:16  Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
James 5:17  Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.
James 5:18  And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
James 5:19  My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth, and one turns him back,
James 5:20  let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.
Transforming Power Statements:

#1) The primary weapon in our spiritual arsenal is prayer to the Father through Jesus Christ our LORD.

#2) The praise of God is proper in every situation and has a benefit on the spiritual level that aids us as we are going through this life.

#3) Participation as a family of believers is being obedient to God and therefore magnifies the priority of our requests before God and invites the power of Jesus who is in our midst to do mighty works for the LORD to His glory.
