Passover and Seven Gracious Words From the CrossGreetings and happy Passover! Welcome and thank God for the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, God’s Son! Today we take a pause from our current study through the letter to the Romans and continue on a brief topical study we began on last Lord’s Day pertaining to the correct Biblical teaching on Christ our Passover, and a special examination of the last seven sayings of Jesus from the cross as He was being crucified for the sin of the world. Let’s join our teacher Pastor Landis Fisher in a teaching he has titled: “Passover and Seven Gracious Words From the Cross”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 40:1 – 10  (KJV)
Psa 40:1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
Psa 40:2  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Psa 40:3  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Psa 40:4  Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Psa 40:5  Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Psa 40:6  Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Psa 40:7  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
Psa 40:8  I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psa 40:9  I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
Psa 40:10  I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Selected Verses  (KJV)
Luke 23:34  Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Luke 23:43  And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

John 19:26  When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
John 19:27  Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Mat 27:46  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

John 19:28  After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

John 19:30  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Luke 23:46  And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

Transforming Power Statements:#1) The Passover is the focal point of every sacrifice that was made from the first one offered by God Himself on behalf of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden until the Final sacrifice of Jesus the Christ {Messiah} on the cross after which the veil of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom, thus ending the sacrificial system once and for all, because Jesus was the reality of the types and shadows from time past.

#2) The seven sayings uttered by Jesus from the midst of a most awful, humiliating, painful, cruel, and cursed predicament in public on a disgraceful cross, show us the unmitigated level of love and grace that Messiah had as He paid no attention to His personal affliction but only concern for the sinners all around Him, whom He loved beyond calculation.

#3) All these things that we celebrate as we remember Christ our Passover are here to deepen our love and appreciation of Christ and His Father and to elevate our concern for everyone else in the world for whom Jesus died that they might not perish but have everlasting life through the glorious gospel of our salvation.
