Old Testament Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 9:1 – 6 (NASB) |
|
Deu 9:1 “Hear, O Israel! You are crossing over the Jordan today to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, great cities fortified to heaven,
Deu 9:2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard it said, ‘Who can stand before the sons of Anak?’
Deu 9:3 “Know therefore today that it is the LORD your God who is crossing over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the LORD has spoken to you.
Deu 9:4 “Do not say in your heart when the LORD your God has driven them out before you, ‘Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land,’ but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is dispossessing them before you.
Deu 9:5 “It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD your God is driving them out before you, in order to confirm the oath which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Deu 9:6 “Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people. |

New Testament Scripture Reading: James 1:17 – 25 (NASB) |
|
James 1:17 Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow.
James 1:18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we might be, as it were, the first fruits among His creatures.
James 1:19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;
James 1:20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
James 1:21 Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
James 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
James 1:24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
James 1:25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does. |

Transforming Power Statements:
#1) The salvation of man has always been provided by the will of God alone. The kindness and love of God flows out of His nature toward mankind even though all of mankind exists in a fallen condition and is estranged from God. If left alone all of mankind would justly perish under the judgment of God, but only because of His mercy and grace in all ages of time believers have been spared / saved from His Holy and just wrath by faith alone. (This is a brief explanation of God’s will to save sinners)
#2) God has chosen to give the world His Word {The Holy Bible} and specifically the message of the gospel of Christ, as the vehicle through which all people can know His will and understand His provision for believers in His Son, Whom He has ordained to be the King of kings and the LORD of lords, and the only savior. {/ mediator}
#3) Being born from above, commonly stated as “Being born again” is the phrase that is given to individuals who have believed that Jesus the Messiah has come, died, rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures, for the full payment of all sin on their behalf. Some time previous to this transaction, the Holy Spirit is given to indwell the believer to finish the work of salvation through on-going revelation of the Scriptures and internal spiritual guidance by the Holy Spirit. |
