Old Testament Scripture Reading: Zechariah 3:1 – 8 (KJV) |
|
Zec 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
Zec 3:2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?
Zec 3:3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
Zec 3:4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
Zec 3:5 And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
Zec 3:6 And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,
Zec 3:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.
Zec 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1 – 7 (KJV) |
|
Luk 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Luk 2:2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
Luk 2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
Luk 2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Luk 2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
Luk 2:6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
Luk 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Transforming Power Statements:
1) Perhaps the most obvious fact in Holy Scripture that is laced throughout the entirety of the sacred text is the fact of God’s grace toward man and can be witnessed beginning with Adam and is prevalent throughout the entirety of the Bible in most every account given for us to behold.
2) From the time of Adam, until the time of Joshua the high priest, the need for God to offer salvation by His grace remained even toward His very own chosen people, as represented here through Zechariah which shows the activity of Satan toward mankind to accuse and slander, while God is there to cleanse, cover and protect, even though it is true that even the best of the chosen (the high priest) is truly filthy in God’s sight.
3) The giving of God’s Only-begotten Son, Jesus is the highest picture of God’s best being poured out for mankind’s worst, which is the very highest display of the love of God toward mankind and shows the lavish expense and highest magnitude of God’s love and grace toward mankind, even at the very expense of Christ, God’s most high priest who Himself is the greatest gift of all time given to each of us who believes!
