Getting In Sync With God’s Plan

In this installment {number 7} in our on-going study in the book of first Peter, Pastor: Landis is teaching some of the dynamics of enpowerment contained in the text to encourage believers to continue to press toward the mark of the high upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Listen and learn how you too might be able to be “Getting in sync with God’s plan”.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 71:1 – 19  (NASB)
Psa 71:1  In Thee, O LORD, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed.
Psa 71:2  In Thy righteousness deliver me, and rescue me; Incline Thine ear to me, and save me.
Psa 71:3  Be Thou to me a rock of habitation, to which I may continually come; Thou hast given commandment to save me, For Thou art my rock and my fortress.
Psa 71:4  Rescue me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the grasp of the wrongdoer and ruthless man,
Psa 71:5  For Thou art my hope; O Lord GOD, Thou art my confidence from my youth.
Psa 71:6  By Thee I have been sustained from my birth; Thou art He who took me from my mother’s womb; My praise is continually of Thee.
Psa 71:7  I have become a marvel to many; For Thou art my strong refuge.
Psa 71:8  My mouth is filled with Thy praise, And with Thy glory all day long.
Psa 71:9  Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
Psa 71:10  For my enemies have spoken against me; And those who watch for my life have consulted together,
Psa 71:11  Saying, “God has forsaken him; Pursue and seize him, for there is no one to deliver.”
Psa 71:12  O God, do not be far from me; O my God, hasten to my help!
Psa 71:13  Let those who are adversaries of my soul be ashamed and consumed; Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor, who seek to injure me.
Psa 71:14  But as for me, I will hope continually, And will praise Thee yet more and more.
Psa 71:15  My mouth shall tell of Thy righteousness, And of Thy salvation all day long; For I do not know the sum of them.
Psa 71:16  I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Thy righteousness, Thine alone.
Psa 71:17  O God, Thou hast taught me from my youth; And I still declare Thy wondrous deeds.
Psa 71:18  And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Thy strength to this generation, Thy power to all who are to come.

Psa 71:19  For Thy righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens, Thou who hast done great things; O God, who is like Thee?

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:10 – 21  (NASB)
1 Pet 1:10  As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful search and inquiry,
1 Pet 1:11  seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
1 Pet 1:12  It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things into which angels long to look.
1 Pet 1:13  Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Pet 1:14  As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
1 Pet 1:15  but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
1 Pet 1:16  because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
1 Pet 1:17  And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay upon earth;
1 Pet 1:18  knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
1 Pet 1:19  but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
1 Pet 1:20  For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
1 Pet 1:21  who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Transforming Power Statements:

#1) Since we have received another evidence of the great love that God has for those who “believe in His Only Son”, {such as revelation of ancient prophecy not even understood fully by prophets nor angels} we can be more sure that God has our success in His plans, so we may confidently approach Him knowing that He is aware of our deficiencies and is willing to teach us marvelous things that we have never known.

#2) Immediately after being saved, mental preparation will be the first step to making the adjustments required in getting our lives in sync with God’s holiness, for we must learn what holiness is and how it applies to all people, things, and circumstances we encounter in life.

#3) Having our hope set completely on “the grace” we are yet to receive at the final revelation of Jesus, and all our hope set on God, must be allowed to soothe our souls as we operate in reverence toward God as He unfolds His plans for our journey here on earth as we proceed to His promised glorification.
