From Seder To Savior

On last Lord’s day, Pastor Fisher opened a topic dealing with understanding the betrayal of Messiah by one whom He had treated as a dear friend through out His three and a half year ministry. This serious lack of loyalty was amplified by the season which was supposed to be most holy to the Jews known for generations as Passover, the days of unleavened bread.

This week our teacher will further deal with how God continues to reveal His glory in fulfilling the eternal gospel as we zoom in on Jesus and the twelve at the last conventional Jewish Seder known to many as “The Last Supper” So, let us find out from the Scriptures what the Spirit of God has for us on this topic as we open our bibles and  take a few notes and listen today as we return to our ongoing study through the gospel of Mark as our teacher Pastor Fisher shares in a teaching which he calls “From Seder To Savior”.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Exodus 12:11 – 21  (KJV)

Exo 12:11  And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover.

Exo 12:12  For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

Exo 12:13  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Exo 12:14  And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Exo 12:15  Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

Exo 12:16  And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.

Exo 12:17  And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.

Exo 12:18  In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

Exo 12:19  Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.

Exo 12:20  Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

Exo 12:21  Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the Passover.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Mark 14:17 – 26  (KJV)
Mark 14:17  And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
Mark 14:18  And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

Mark 14:20  And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
Mark 14:21  The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
Mark 14:22  And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

Mark 14:26  And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Transforming Power Statements:

#1) God wrote clear prophecy of many things by which to validate the authenticity of Jesus as Messiah and of the times and actions of others, such as Judas / Satan, and even the Twelve, so that readers of the Word might have sound proof of the truthfulness of the gospel message fleshed out by Jesus The Christ as well as all those associated with Him. {God had predicted the role of evil in the course of the truth}

#2) During this last Seder (a.k.a. Last Supper) Jesus transferred the meaning of the sacred celebration of killing the Passover to Himself; taking Seder events from symbol to reality.

#3)  Even though Judas had in his heart the notion to betray Jesus and the other disciples knew within themselves that there were reasons that each of them might also have been guilty, Jesus never lost His focus of loving them regardless of their faults, but kept His focus on the Father’s will that He would taste death for every man, being the only Savior acceptable for our salvation.
