Expressing Thanks to God

Happy Thanksgiving to all! One of the most shocking realities taught in the Bible about fallen man is that godless sinners who choose to act as if there is no God, also tend to be thankless, although God has provided everything for everyone. In honor of the American celebration of Thanksgiving, our Pastor Teacher Landis Fisher has a message to the world on this very topic reminding the  Church to always be: “Expressing Thanks to God”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 17:7 – 16  (KJV)

1Ki 17:7  And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
1Ki 17:8  And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
1Ki 17:9  Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
1Ki 17:10  So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
1Ki 17:11  And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
1Ki 17:12  And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
1Ki 17:13  And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
1Ki 17:14  For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
1Ki 17:15  And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
1Ki 17:16  And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1Thessalonians 5:12 – 18  (KJV)

1Th 5:12  And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
1Th 5:13  And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
1Th 5:14  Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
1Th 5:15  See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
1Th 5:16  Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17  Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18  In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) Elijah was the epitome of Old Prophets, perhaps revered on the  par with Moses the servant of the LORD, and yet he too had to learn through the trials of everyday life to become more and more thankful as his walk with God took him into desperate and challenging situations; even as the widow of Zarephath to whom he was sent being in a thankless situation.

2) Even when it looked the most dark in the realities of the situations that life had dealt them, it was needful that they rely on the most High God to possess the attitude of thanksgiving rather than the multitude of sinful attitudes that are held by others on the same scene; and as usual, God made a way out of no way!

3) Paul the Apostle, also had to learn and teach that all New Testament believers likewise must learn to thank God in everything ; and that this will be easy if we analyze the facts of the greatest gift every given: God’s Only-begotten Son Jesus the Christ; crucified for all our sins to provide perfect fellowship with Almighty God and with one another within the body of Christ, His Bride!!
