Established In The Law Of GraceHappy Mother’s Day & greetings to all present and online, in America and abroad! May mothers everywhere have a blessed and glad day!
Today we continue our study in the letter to the Romans. Since we have seen thus far how God can save sinners and still be just, let us examine what the Bible teaches about what a proper reaction to God’s salvation should be from those to whom it is provided. Turn with us to the last verses of the third chapter of Romans, and listen as we conclude this great chapter with a message that our Pastor Landis Fisher has titled: “Established In The Law Of Grace”
Old Testament Scripture Reading: Dueteronomy 28:15 – 25 (NASB)
Deu 28:15 “But it shall come about, if you will not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.
Deu 28:16 “Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.
Deu 28:17 “Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
Deu 28:18 “Cursed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.
Deu 28:19 “Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.
Deu 28:20 “The LORD will send upon you curses, confusion, and rebuke, in all you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, on account of the evil of your deeds, because you have forsaken Me.
Deu 28:21 “The LORD will make the pestilence cling to you until He has consumed you from the land, where you are entering to possess it.
Deu 28:22 “The LORD will smite you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew, and they shall pursue you until you perish.
Deu 28:23 “And the heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron.
Deu 28:24 “The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.
Deu 28:25 “The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them, but you shall flee seven ways before them, and you shall be an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Romans 3:23 – 31 (NASB)
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Rom 3:24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
Rom 3:25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
Rom 3:26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Rom 3:27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
Rom 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.
Rom 3:29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,
Rom 3:30 since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.
Rom 3:31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.
Transforming Power Statements:
#1) Since all the requirements for the salvation of sinners is provided by God through Jesus Christ, by His life, death, burial and resurrection, there is no basis for anyone to boast about anything pertaining to being saved, in that the glory for all salvation clearly belongs to God alone.
#2) Through out all of time men have always sought to steal the glory from God by taking credit for their own righteousness and parading it before other men to seek their admiration rather than walking in humility which extols the high honor of God who alone is worthy praise and glory.
#3) The Gospel of Jesus Christ, which clearly reveals God’s Judgment, justice and mercy toward sinners is the only way that the Holy and righteous requirement of God’s perfect Law could be met, for the Law required perfect compliance that no person has ever fulfilled so that the requirement could be met to satisfy God and therefore those who embrace salvation by the “Law of Faith” do not do away with the Law, but rather establish the Law.
