Cultivating the Spiritual MindAs our Pastor / Teacher Landis Fisher returns to the pulpit as Senior Pastor of the Saint Timothy M.B. Church, his preaching through the epistle to the Romans resumes at the eighth chapter where he left off in August of 2008 A.D.Why do many Christians suffer from doubt about their salvation? Is there any way to be certain that one is saved? What things are true of those who are recipients of the Holy Spirit? Get your bible and listen carefully as Pastor Landis digs into the eigth of Romans to render a message he has titled: “Cultivating the Spiritual Mind”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 37:1 – 9  (KJV)
Psa 37:1  A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Psa 37:2  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Psa 37:3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Psa 37:4  Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Psa 37:5  Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Psa 37:6  And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Psa 37:7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Psa 37:8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Psa 37:9  For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Romans 8:1 – 9  (KJV)
Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Rom 8:4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:5  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Rom 8:6  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Rom 8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Rom 8:8  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Rom 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) True prosperity is knowing that one is right with God through faith in His Son, Jesus the Christ, Whom He has provided to bring all who trust in Him to a perfect “No Condemnation Status”.

2) As Romans chapter seven reveals the reality of the indwelling carnal nature we have, even though we are “Saved”; Romans 8 begins to explain the dynamics of sanctification process beginning from our declared “No Condemnation Status” (which we acquire by faith in the Gospel alone) and continuing through the rest of our existence as we by the Holy Spirit, (Who also now indwells each believer of the Gospel) not only begin; but continue to put to death the deeds of the body.

3) Living in this kind of dual reality needs to be fully understood so as to dispel unbelief and doubt, but also to encourage exerting maximal effort in the positive direction as led by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to sew to the Spirit which will result in more holiness and confidence,  rather than doubt and shame.
