Anointed to be Appointed

Today Pastor Landis Fisher continues in a special series of sermons in transition in preparation for a coming new book study in the near future. Today’s lesson teaches about the importance of realizing that salvation is a work of God upon a remnant to model grace and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the fallen world who is ever increasing in arrogance and therefore spiraling into pride against God. Today’s message has been titled: “Anointed to be Appointed”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Isaiah 6:1 – 13  (KJV)

Isa 6:1  In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Isa 6:2  Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
Isa 6:3  And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
Isa 6:4  And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
Isa 6:5  Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Isa 6:6  Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
Isa 6:7  And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
Isa 6:8  Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Isa 6:9  And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
Isa 6:10  Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
Isa 6:11  Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
Isa 6:12  And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
Isa 6:13  But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1John 2:20 – 27  (NASB)

1Jn 2:20  But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.
1Jn 2:21  I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
1Jn 2:22  Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
1Jn 2:23  Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.
1Jn 2:24  As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
1Jn 2:25  This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.
1Jn 2:26  These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.
1Jn 2:27  As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) Spiritual knowledge is assimilating the understanding of the truth, which is the Word of God for use in every area of life; and is the result of a proper relationship with God Who desires to teach those Whom He has elected to be saved, and to be agents of righteousness to retard the corrupting decay of sin, which is the tendency in the world against God and His people.

2) In the days of Isaiah God chose him to receive an anointing as Prophet so that he could be appointed to the proclamation of a message of judgment to warn the people of how far they had fallen away from the truth, and to speak comfort to the remaining remnant of believers so that they could remain faithful throughout the approaching judgment and still raise a godly seed.

3) As we assess our own lives and come to know that our salvation is strictly a product of God’s grace that has been given through the knowledge of Jesus Christ, His Son, the “Anointed One”; and that the reason we have been anointed is so that we may also be “Appointed” to stand as representatives of God in carrying out His proclamation of the Gospel to the ends of the Earth; let us run with patience the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus, in spite of the position of the culture.
