Acquisition of Holiness

Is it possible for someone who sins to ever be considered clean in God’s sight being that He is Absolutely Holy? What about Christians who have believed in Jesus that He is the Messiah; who still struggle with sinful acts and temptations; how can they be “holy”? What about the Jews, God’s chosen people, doesn’t God still honor their means of worship even though they do not accept Jesus as Messiah? Listen in as Pastor Landis teaches a special topical message for the celebration of Christ’s provision of all things acceptable to His Father on the behalf of the believer, through His glorious Passover provision and resurrection from the dead.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 86:1 – 13  (KJV)
Psa 86:1  A Prayer of David. Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy.
Psa 86:2  Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
Psa 86:3  Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
Psa 86:4  Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
Psa 86:5  For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
Psa 86:6  Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
Psa 86:7  In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
Psa 86:8  Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.
Psa 86:9  All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.
Psa 86:10  For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.
Psa 86:11  Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
Psa 86:12  I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.
Psa 86:13  For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.
New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:3 – 16  (NASB)
1 Pet 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Pet 1:4  to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
1 Pet 1:5  who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Pet 1:6  In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
1 Pet 1:7  that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1 Pet 1:8  and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
1 Pet 1:9  obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
1 Pet 1:10  As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful search and inquiry,
1 Pet 1:11  seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
1 Pet 1:12  It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things into which angels long to look.
1 Pet 1:13  Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Pet 1:14  As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
1 Pet 1:15  but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
1 Pet 1:16  because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
Transforming Power Statements:

#1) From God’s perspective there is no acceptable self-produced form of human righteousness and therefore if there is any such thing as a human who may be considered “holy” such holiness must be a foreign righteousness given as a free gift from God on the basis of faith in His Son Jesus Christ the Messiah.

#2) Even though it is so that believers in God as Savior are granted this foreign righteousness as a free gift through the grace which is in Christ Jesus through the shedding of His blood, actual practical holiness shall be the fruit of the gift of imputed holiness which they have received.

#3) Whoever there is who ignores God’s decree concerning His Only Begotten Son cannot be saved whether they be Jew or Gentile because Christ is the only Mediator between God and man.
