Acquiring the Mind of the Spirit {Part 2}

This is the second installment of the message from last week “Acquiring the Mind of The Spirit” in which Pastor: Landis began to teach some basic principals of spiritual understanding. Listen to part 2 & learn more on how to accelerate your ability to acquire the Mind of Christ.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 39:1 – 13  (NASB)
A Psalm of David I said, “I will guard my ways, That I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth as with a muzzle, While the wicked are in my presence.”

Psa 39:2 I was dumb and silent, I refrained even from good; And my sorrow grew worse.

Psa 39:3 My heart was hot within me; While I was musing the fire burned; Then I spoke with my tongue:

Psa 39:4 “LORD, make me to know my end, And what is the extent of my days, Let me know how transient I am.

Psa 39:5 “Behold, Thou hast made my days as handbreadths, And my lifetime as nothing in Thy sight, Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah.

Psa 39:6 “Surely every man walks about as a phantom; Surely they make an uproar for nothing; He amasses riches, and does not know who will gather them.

Psa 39:7 “And now, Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in Thee.

Psa 39:8 “Deliver me from all my transgressions; Make me not the reproach of the foolish.

Psa 39:9 “I have become dumb, I do not open my mouth, Because it is Thou who hast done it.

Psa 39:10 “Remove Thy plague from me; Because of the opposition of Thy hand, I am perishing.

Psa 39:11 “With reproofs Thou dost chasten a man for iniquity; Thou dost consume as a moth what is precious to him; Surely every man is a mere breath. Selah.

Psa 39:12 “Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears; For I am a stranger with Thee, A sojourner like all my fathers.

Psa 39:13 “Turn Thy gaze away from me, that I may smile again, Before I depart and am no more.”

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:1 – 16  (NASB)
1 Cor 2:1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.

1 Cor 2:2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

1 Cor 2:3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling.

1 Cor 2:4 And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

1 Cor 2:5 that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

1 Cor 2:6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away;

1 Cor 2:7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory;

1 Cor 2:8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;

1 Cor 2:9 but just as it is written, “THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.”

1 Cor 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

1 Cor 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.

1 Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God,

1 Cor 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

1 Cor 2:15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no man.

1 Cor 2:16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE SHOULD INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.

Point # 1) The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God the Father, that He gives to all who repent of their sinfulness and trust in His Son Jesus Christ and believe in His resurrection as proof of His total victory over the curse, sin, death satan and the grave.

Point # 2) The Holy Bible is the spiritual data required for the disciple to acquire the mind of the Spirit; the Word therefore, must be learned, understood & practiced to obtain the desired effect which has been revealed by God. (Romans 8:29)

Point # 3) The ultimate goal of all Christian discipleship and acquisition of the Mind of the Spirit is for believers to learn and apply “True Love” as God and Jesus have toward ourselves and the balance of fallen mankind.

Points from Acquiring the Mind of the Spirit Part I {08/29/04AD}

Point #1) Because of the fall of man, the tendencies of man are naturally in opposition to the will of God and therefore oppose righteousness in accordance with the standard of God, and set themselves on courses that resolve in conflict with God.

Point #2) The depravity of mankind produces grief for the Spirit of God that has brought about temporal judgment throughout the history of time & will eventually draw the final permanent destruction of all that is ungodly, yet in the meantime, due to the love of God for mankind, He has delayed the outpouring of His wrath to all mankind space to repent, in order to avoid His eternal punishment.

Point #3) God, in His great love has provided, through the death of His only-begotten Son Jesus Christ a perfect solution for everyone who believes in Him to be justified {acquitted} from their guilt and penalty for their sins and has recruited them {His church } to communicate to the rest who do not believe that this is so. All believers have become “Ambassadors” for Christ to the lost who do not know or accept Him.

Points from: “The Quest of the Holy Spirit” sermon from 8/22/04AD

Point #1) The Holy Spirit being the third person of the God-Head is often misunderstood although He is God. He is a person who operates in a mystical manner in full harmony with the Father and the Son.

Point #2) Since the ministry of the Spirit is mystical, the Holy Spirit has more to do with operations from God to the human family than are imagined by most.

Point #3) The Holy Spirit has a “Quest” or a “Mission” to fulfill which began in eternity and will continue into eternity that has much to do with the salvation of believers in Jesus Christ. The Holy Bible, which is authored by the Holy Spirit is the decree of this “Quest / Mission” and is revealed to all who trust in Jesus the Christ.
