Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 110:1 – 7 (KJV)
Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Psa 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
Psa 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
Psa 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
Psa 110:5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
Psa 110:6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
Psa 110:7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Hebrews 7:11 – 24 (KJV)
Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
Heb 7:13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
Heb 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
Heb 7:15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
Heb 7:16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
Heb 7:17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 7:18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
Heb 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Heb 7:20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
Heb 7:21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
Heb 7:22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
Heb 7:23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
Heb 7:24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
Transforming Power Statements:
1) Psalms 110 reveals that Jesus, Messiah has been revealed to be both a King and a Priest, and both after the order of Melchisedec, which is by interpretation “King of Righteousness” King of Salem” “King of Peace”.
2) Not only does the “eternal Priesthood” of Melchisedec precede that of the Law, (which is the Levitical priesthood;) but it also is indestructible, eternal, and entirely Holy, making it perfect for application to completely correct all sinners who come to Jesus for refuge as King, Priest, and Lord, Who alone provides what God requires for each believer forever!
3) In conclusion, Jesus Christ is not only the Holy suffering servant of God and of Man, but is also the true King of Kings; and is also the Great and Eternal High Priest, Who has passed through the heavens, manifested in the flesh on the earth, defeated death, hell, and the grave once and for all providing complete salvation to each and everyone who believes in Him!
