Learning to practice loving God above all things, and loving our neighbors as we love ourselves are the two most essential pillars upon which the fulfillment of all the Law and the Prophets rest! Our lesson today instructs us to trust God’s provision of His Son Jesus, Who supplies all who believe in Him with the righteousness of God, so that they can be filled with the Holy Spirit and be led by “Internal Motivation”
Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 37:1 – 9 (KJV)
Psa 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
Psa 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Psa 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Psa 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Psa 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Psa 37:6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
Psa 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Psa 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Psa 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:4 – 9 (KJV)
Php 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Php 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Php 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Php 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Transforming Power Statements:
1) Focusing on God Who grants righteousness to sinners who trust in Him is the dividing line between the saved and the lost, because the ones believing God are also the ones who are being cleansed by their relationship with God from within.
2) The indwelling Holy Spirit illuminates the Scriptures and provides the internal motivation required to not only begin the walk of faith, but also the understanding of how to continue in the faith unto actual sanctification.
3) The Church at Philippi was instructed to apply this internal motivation to a change in what we allow our minds to dwell on so that our focus is on the fruit of the Spirit rather than on the actions or attitudes of others.
