Turning Aspiration Into Inspiration

This message from Pastor Landis teaches us how to progress more deeply into our ever growing understanding & fellowship with the risen Son of God and the type of attitude we may develop or cultivate to continue to experience growth in our Christian lives.

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 4:32 -39  (NASB)
Deu 4:32 “Indeed, ask now concerning the former days which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and inquire from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything been done like this great thing, or has anything been heard like it?

Deu 4:33 “Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and survived?

Deu 4:34 “Or has a god tried to go to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

Deu 4:35 “To you it was shown that you might know that the LORD, He is God; there is no other besides Him.

Deu 4:36 “Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire.

Deu 4:37 “Because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them. And He personally brought you from Egypt by His great power,

Deu 4:38 driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.

Deu 4:39 “Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the LORD, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.

New Testament Scripture Reading: Hebrews 6:1 – 20  (NASB)
Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

Heb 6:2 of instruction about washings, and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

Heb 6:3 And this we shall do, if God permits.

Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

Heb 6:5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

Heb 6:6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame.

Heb 6:7 For ground that drinks the rain which often falls upon it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;

Heb 6:8 but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.

Heb 6:9 But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way.

Heb 6:10 For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.

Heb 6:11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end,

Heb 6:12 that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Heb 6:13 For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

Heb 6:14 saying, “I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU, AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU.”

Heb 6:15 And thus, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.

Heb 6:16 For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.

Heb 6:17 In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,

Heb 6:18 in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us.

Heb 6:19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,

Heb 6:20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Point #1) The benefits of the gospel of our salvation are the product of the fulfillment of the desires of God the Father that He chose to reveal to mankind through the prophetic word {The Law, The Prophets, The Psalms, & The Holy Writings} concerning the offering of His Only-begotten Son as full payment for the sins of all believers based solely on the merits of Christ Jesus in order to eliminate boasting on the part of any, and to display His great love and mercy as well as His righteousness, justice, and judgment.Point #2) The advent of the “New Birth” that delivers us into perfect fellowship with God the Father through the atonement provided by the sacrifice of God the Son, awards us with the gift of the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit Who increasingly produces in us simultaneously “holy aspirations & discontentment”. This new paradox of the will keeps the believer in tension between the aspiration to progress toward Christ-likeness (which he now sees and loves) and the desires of the past which war against their soul and even at times dominate the will of the Spirit of God within you and produces conviction.

Point #3) Every Christian must develop the ability through the study of the word to realize the truth and implications of the gospel that teach us that God has made peace with the world through the blood of Jesus Christ and He is waiting and willing to bring us closer in fellowship and blessing and that the obstacle to this closeness is always on our end not His.

Points from: “Developing Intimacy With Christ”

Point #1) Being called to be learners {Disciples} of Jesus Christ we are to gradually acquire knowledge from Him through His Word which we are also to apply to ourselves and to teach to others around us as we go through this life.

Point #2) By coming to an understanding of the Word of Christ, we must also be increasing in our personal fellowship with Jesus and the Father as we commune together over an ever widening circumference in our lives.

Point #3) As we become more intimate with the LORD we must also learn that His desires, purposes, and plans are greater than our capabilities of perception so that we can trust His judgments even when we fail to understand them.

Points from Acquiring the Mind of the Spirit Part II

Point #1) The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God the Father, that He gives to all who repent of their sinfulness and trust in His Son Jesus Christ and believe in His resurrection as proof of His total victory over the curse, sin, death satan and the grave.

Point #2) The Holy Bible is the spiritual data required for the disciple to acquire the mind of the Spirit; the Word therefore, must be learned, understood & practiced to obtain the desired effect which has been revealed by God. (Romans 8:29)

Point #3) The ultimate goal of all Christian discipleship and acquisition of the Mind of the Spirit is for believers to learn and apply “True Love” as God and Jesus have toward ourselves and the balance of fallen mankind.

Points from Acquiring the Mind of the Spirit Part I {08/29/04AD}

Point #1) Because of the fall of man, the tendencies of man are naturally in opposition to the will of God and therefore oppose righteousness in accordance with the standard of God, and set themselves on courses that resolve in conflict with God.

Point #2) The depravity of mankind produces grief for the Spirit of God that has brought about temporal judgment throughout the history of time & will eventually draw the final permanent destruction of all that is ungodly, yet in the meantime, due to the love of God for mankind, He has delayed the outpouring of His wrath to all mankind space to repent, in order to avoid His eternal punishment.

Point #3) God, in His great love has provided, through the death of His only-begotten Son Jesus Christ a perfect solution for everyone who believes in Him to be justified {acquitted} from their guilt and penalty for their sins and has recruited them {His church } to communicate to the rest who do not believe that this is so. All believers have become “Ambassadors” for Christ to the lost who do not know or accept Him.

Points from: “The Quest of the Holy Spirit” sermon from 8/22/04AD

Point #1) The Holy Spirit being the third person of the God-Head is often misunderstood although He is God. He is a person who operates in a mystical manner in full harmony with the Father and the Son.

Point #2) Since the ministry of the Spirit is mystical, the Holy Spirit has more to do with operations from God to the human family than are imagined by most.

Point #3) The Holy Spirit has a “Quest” or a “Mission” to fulfill which began in eternity and will continue into eternity that has much to do with the salvation of believers in Jesus Christ. The Holy Bible, which is authored by the Holy Spirit is the decree of this “Quest / Mission” and is revealed to all who trust in Jesus the Christ.
