Pressing Toward Spiritual Maturity

print
As we continue to learn about obstacles to our salvation, let us consider the first step in the process and the main reason we must learn to rely on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, rightly understood as step one, in putting on the whole armor of God against the tricks of the devil and other deniers of God’s Gospel. Likewise, God has set His standard for all people, and it must be attained in His way, as He has stated in His Word, The Bible!

Therefore, step one is getting the understanding of Salvation from the Word of God, which He has provided for everyone who chooses to receive His Wisdom through the preaching of His Word to as many as receive Jesus Christ! So, the question for everyone, is where do you stand in ” Pressing Toward Spiritual Maturity”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 84:8 – 12 (KJV)

Psa 84:8  O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

Psa 84:9  Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

Psa 84:10  For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Psa 84:11  For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Psa 84:12  O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

New Testament Scripture Reading Philippians 3:7 – 15 (KJV)

Php 3:7  But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Php 3:8  Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

Php 3:9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Php 3:10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Php 3:11  If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

Php 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Php 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Php 3:15  Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) Spiritual maturity must become the focal point of our worship, which means a setting aside of  life without the influence of God’s Word, and the impact of personal fellowship with God through the Spirit, and fellowship with others who are likeminded and focused on accomplishing similar goals, making every assembly of God’s people and services to Him central in our lives.

2) The Psalmist’s prayer is based on “Biblical knowledge” referring  to an OT Patriarch, Jacob, who came to know the true God. through many trials which taught him to trust God through all things and to celebrate the presence of God even over any negative circumstances at hand, for any reason, and to continue to hold on to God’s promises until he received the blessing!

3) The Apostle Paul teaches us that we must not lose heart on our Christian journey, but rather to set our minds and eyes on the goal of future glory and lean into the projected direction of the  truth of Jesus Christ perfect provision for us and together with all the saints to press toward the mark of the high upward call of God , while allowing God’s Word and Spirit to correct us along the way!
