Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 2:1 – 12 (KJV)
Psa 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
Psa 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Psa 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Psa 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
New Testament Scripture Reading: 1Peter 2:11 : 15 (KJV)
1Pe 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
1Pe 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
1Pe 2:13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
1Pe 2:14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
1Pe 2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
Transforming Power Statements:
1) The Psalmist outlined the attitude of the nations who fight against each other to snatch and grab power for themselves over and against each other, never realizing that God is supreme and has always had a plan for a “True Ruler” Who shall rule the world in righteousness, Who is His own Son, Jesus Christ our LORD!
2) The Law and the prophets also indicated that Messiah, the Son of David, would come to reign upon David’s throne and that His Kingdom would be an everlasting one and the citizens of His kingdom would be granted authority for their faithful services as they endured as good citizens of the temporal kingdoms of this life.
3) The apostle Peter (along with other NT writers) teaches that as citizens of God’s true Kingdom are to be as ambassadors who attract others from all the kingdoms of the world into becoming citizens of God’s coming Kingdom, where Jesus Christ, The Perfect King, will reign forever and ever!
