Old Testament Scripture Reading: Isaiah 1:18 – 20 (KJV)
Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Isa 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Isa 1:20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Galatians 3:13 – 18 (KJV)
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Gal 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Gal 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
Transforming Power Statements:
1) One amazing fact about God is that He knows everything and yet He still offers fallen people the opportunity to reason with Him so that they can come to a proper spiritual assessment of themselves based on His Word, so that they can receive His mercy and grace as a result of attaining agreement with His Word.
2) The Apostle Paul realizes this amazing characteristic and uses a similar line of reasoning throughout the New Testament, for example, he confronts the Galatians to properly understand the Old Testament’s teaching about the Patriarch Abraham and what was the manner of his salvation, which was based on faith in the promises of God rather than personal works at a time four hundred and thirty years before the giving of the Law of God.
3) Spiritual security comes only to those who through the Holy Spirit learn to embrace and trust the promises given by God by faith alone apart from the Law, but yet learn to learn through the Law what things are right in the sight of a perfectly righteous God, Who alone has paid the cost of our redemption through His Only Begotten Son, Jesus The Christ!!!!
