Atonement For the Fallen Soul

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Isaiah 53:6 -12 (KJV)

Isa 53:6  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isa 53:7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Isa 53:8  He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Isa 53:9  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Isa 53:10  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Isa 53:11  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Isa 53:12  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:21 – 25 (KJV)

1Pe 2:21  For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

1Pe 2:22  Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

1Pe 2:23  Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

1Pe 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

1Pe 2:25  For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Transforming Power Statements:

1) The Old Testament word for what God provides for believers who come to Him and trust Him is Atonement which is equivalent to the New Testament word “Propitiation” which carries the idea of complete satisfaction to God for each and every believer who trusts completely in Jesus and His finished work on the cross!

2) As Isaiah speaks in the Spirit, he reveals that it was the pure soul of Jesus that was able to cure the sin of everyone who believe in Him, so that no huan works are required, just faith in Messiah,

3) Peter also presents Christ as the solo Savior who is also stated to be the Bishop of our souls, because of the perfect offering on His soul to satisfy God!
