Families Fixed on Hope and Grace

Our Pastor Teacher Landis Fisher, continues today on the series of messages on marriage and family, with another installment in the series taken from 1st Peter which he has titled: “Families Fixed on Hope and Grace”

Old Testament Scripture Reading: Lam 3:21 – 26  (KJV)

Lam 3:21  This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
Lam 3:22  It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Lam 3:23  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lam 3:24  The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
Lam 3:25  The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Lam 3:26  It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

New Testament Scripture Reading: 1Peter 1:13 – 17  (KJV)

1Pe 1:13  Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1Pe 1:14  As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1Pe 1:15  But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe 1:16  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
1Pe 1:17  And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

Transforming Power Statements:

1) When those who have been blessed to have a “spiritual mindset” observe the judgments of God being executed against a rebellious culture who have chosen to walk proudly against the things of God, the only peaceful place of refuge is to resort back into the Word of God and to call to mind the faithfulness of God’s promises to those who fear Him; and to not be tossed about by the fears of those who have chosen to live their lives as if there is no God.

2) When the children of Israel had been disobedient and were therefore, allowed to be afflicted by their enemies, there were some who remained in faith, still trusting God and remembering His promises and goodness toward them and as they began to refresh their thoughts they realized that God’s compassion had never failed them, and this generated hope to hold on and wait upon the LORD.

3) The battlefield for the believer is in the mind and therefore, we must learn to continue in obedience to God and prayer to be empowered to walk in faith, regardless of what others do who have no hope apart from a proper knowledge of God and His ways.
