On Last Lord’s Day, Pastor Landis Fisher began a mini series on growing in the processes of faith which time did not allow to be completed. This week, he continues this thought provoking subject revealing the role of the Holy Spirit in this work of God’s grace toward those who believe in Christ Jesus His Son. Old Testament Scripture Reading: Habakkuk 2:1 – 4  (KJV)

Hab 2:1  I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Hab 2:2  And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Hab 2:3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Hab 2:4  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Heb 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Heb 11:2  For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Heb 11:3  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Heb 11:4  By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Heb 11:5  By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Transforming Power Statements:

1) Walking by faith and not by sight is required for the Christian to be able to grow as the processes of faith produce more deeper levels of trust in God, which makes us tend toward righteousness.

 

2) Romans 8 is the best expose’ on the inner workings of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, and assists our understanding of our relationship to God, the world, and even the flesh, as we grow more and more through proper interaction with the Spirit.

 

3) It is the Holy Spirit Who presses us to grow beyond our present state by producing in us a thirst for righteousness and a hatred for sin each day as we learn to yield to His leading and to oppose the flesh.
