Such is life on planet Earth. Did you know that God has promised a perfect kingdom, which includes all people who believe in His Son who shall be the greatest of all kings of all times? Well listen in today and learn what insight the Bible has to offer on this awesome topic as our pastor / teacher Landis Fisher provides an interesting view on this question and more, as we continue our study through the gospel of Mark, in a lesson that he calls: “Visitation of the King of Glory” So, open your bibles and listen in, as we pray along with our teacher.
Old Testament Scripture Reading: Psalms 2:1 – 12 (KJV)
Psa 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Psa 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Psa 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Psa 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
New Testament Scripture Reading: Mark 11:1 – 11 (KJV)
Mark 11:1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, Mark 11:2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. Mark 11:3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. Mark 11:4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. Mark 11:5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? Mark 11:6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. Mark 11:7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. Mark 11:8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strowed them in the way. Mark 11:9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Mark 11:10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. Mark 11:11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
Transforming Power Statements: #1) Prophecies from the Older Testament had spoken of the coming of God’s King and promised the kingdom which would be the greatest of all time, as they predicted to two Advents of Messiah the Prince, the Son of the living God.
#2) Much of the traditional celebration that was very much a thriving part of orthodox Jewish living was centered around the coming One being endowed with salvation delivering peace and times of refreshing from the presence of the LORD.#3) This visitation of the King marked the fulfillment of His receipt for the first Advent which was followed by His prophesied crucifixion burial and resurrection to make acceptable atonement for the sin of the world available to every sinner coming to God by faith in Him alone; this is the gospel.
